ALMOST POISONED
AGED COUPLE OVERCOME BY GAS FUMES.
BOTH IN SERIOUS CONDITION.

Auckland. Nov. 21. escaping gas in a bedroom almost poisoned James Lawson Morrison, ag e d 73. and his wife, aged 74, who were admitted to hospital in a serious and uncon-
scious condition. They had assisted a brother-in-law to move and being kept until 2 a.m. arranging the furniture accepted his invitation to spend the night at his place. They occupied a spare bedroom, the window of which was shut. In th e morning they could not be aroused. From the position of their bodies they had evidently been trying to grope their way from the room when overcome by the gas fumes. A gas had been escaping from a bracket with two jets, neither of which bad been turned off.
The hospital authorities stated this morning that, the condition of Mrs Morrison was critical and ot Mr Morrison fair.
