N.Z. v. THE REST

TO-DAY’S PLAY AT CHRIST-

CHURCH

BRIGHT SUNSHINE AFTER RAIN.

(Per Press Association.)

Christchurch, Nov. 21.

After heavy rain overnight the weather cleared to bright sunshine for the resumption of the match, New Zealand continuing with 292 for seven the not out batsmen being McGirr (12) and James (2). At noon the score was 325 for 8 wickets.

The first ball of the day, from Newman, clean skittled McGirr, who played all over it. When Bernau and James were together the scoring was slow, until James pulled a short one from Read for four and sent another over the leg boundary for six—the first of the match. Newman, who was bowling well, caught Bernau’s off stump with a leg break. 326—9—16. Merritt came in but James was stumped almost immediately off Newman with the total at 330. Langridge and Newman opened the Rest’s second innings. The score at the luncheon adjournment was 34 for 1 wicket. Details: — NEW ZEALAND. First Innings. C. Oliver, b Badcock 3 J. Mills, e.
