LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
Te Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m to-day. The Rent Restriction Continuance Bill was reported by the Labour Bills Committee with amendments, the chief of which makes special provision for the recovery of. possession of a dwelling by a landlord where he has entered into a contract for the sale of the freehold of the house. The dura-, tion of the legislation is expended to January 1, 1929. Moving the second reading of the bill. Sir Francis Bell said no year could have been more unsafe to remove the restrictions than the present year, for never before were the poorer classes in greater danger of further charges being placed on their slender subsistence. No real hardship would be inflicted on the landlord bv the continuance of the restrictions. The bill was read the second time.
The Seeds Importation Bill was out through the final stages and passed without amendment.
The Napier Foreshore Bill and Newmarket Borough Council Vesting and Empowering Bill were also passed unamended.
The Slaughtering and Inspection Amendment Bill, Noxious Weeds Amendment Bill, and Coal Mines Amendment Bill were received from the House, read the first time and second time pro forma, and the two former referred back to the Stock Committee and' the latter to rhe Mines Committee. The Council rose at 4.45 n.m. until 'Tuesday,
