POINT CHEVALIER
PROPOSED DIXIELAND BATHS. CITY COUNCIL’S OBJECTION. (Per Press Association). Auckland, Nov. 19. Giving evidence at the inquiry into the question of the City Council givin permission to Dixieland to erect private baths at Point Chevalier, counsel for the council said the main objections were that baths on the proposed site would create a serious menace to the beach. It would take very little to denude the beach of its thin coating of sand and shell and turn it into a mud plot, and that, in view of its position as public custodian, the council objected to private baths being erected. It was also believed that the proximity of the cabaret would not be in the best interests of public welfare. Several ladies gave evidence against the granting of the permit. Asked if they objected owing to the proximity of Dixieland, there was a chorus of “Noesl” one lady interjecting that they objected to any private company erecting baths. The inquiry was adjourned.
