A Wedding Present: An applica. tion for an increase in salary ui account of his approaching marriage, was made to the Wanganui Hospital Board by an employee on the staff of the Taihape Hospital (states the Wanganui “Herald”). The increase was granted, Mr. Davis, of Taihape, stating that the man was a good worker and deserved . the rise in salary. Mr. W. J. Rogers then suggeste'd that in view of the man’s good record and his approaching marriage, he be granted a bonus of one month’s salary. This was considered to be too extravagant and Mr. Rogers finally moved that he be presented with a cheque for £5 as a wedding present. Four members voted ip favour of the motion and four against. The chairman (Dr. Skerman) gave his casting vote in favour of the motion; so the Taihape man will receive a pleasant, surprise to the tune of a “fiver.” It was made clear that the board was in no way establishing a precedent, hut that this was an exceptional case of good service.
