STORY OF GALLIPOLI
GENERAL ASPINALL’S CHAPTER
AUSTRALIANS WILL BE SATISFIED.
London, Nov-ember 15.
General Sir Granville Ryrie, after an interview with General Aspinall, said: “1 have read the whole chapter relating to the landing on Gallipoli, also the correspondence between General Aspinall and Captain C. E. Bean and, in addition, a letter from the New Zealand Defence Department. I have come to the conclusion that the reference to the Australians is. on the whole fairly accurate. General Aspinall having revised portions following the correspondence with Captain Bean. I did not arrive on Gallipoli until a month after the landing, but reliable information has satisfied me that the agitation caused in Australia is due to a mistaken idea of what Genera) Aspinall intended to publish. Australian returned soldiers are nov likely,to be dissatisfied when thev read it.”—(A. and N.Z.)
