VISIT TO PUKEORA. Tuesday was VVaipawa’s allotted day for the monthly visit to the Pukeora Sanatorium and many made tile journey. Splendid rain has been experienced in this district during the past two days. Although retarding sharing operations it is otherwise particularly welcomed by the farmers. The Waipawa Operatic Society held another successful rehearsal on Tuesday evening of ‘‘The Sunshine Girl,” and both principals and chorus are becoming quite proficient in their parts. The play, which is to be put on at about December, promises to he very successful. Examinations for the Public Service Entrance and National Scholarship at? being held at Waipawa under the supervision of the Rev. Robertson and Miss Walker, For the Senior National Scholarships the candidates number 38—Te Auto 14, Waipawa District High School 12, Waipukurau 12. For the Junior National there are 18 candidates—Waipawa 9. Waipukurau 6, Wanstead 2, Onga Onga 1. PERSONAL. Mr. and Airs. A. E. King returned to Waipawa on Tuesday evening from a visit tu Christchurch. Mr. and 1 Mrs. Alf Pellow, of the Kaitaia wireless station, are on a visit to Waipawa.

Air. W. I. Limbrick left Waipawa on Tuesday on a business visit to Blenheim.

Air. Gordon Limbrick, who has been a popular resident of the town for some time and a member of the Borough Council, left b v the mail train this morning for the South Island, where he has purchased a business.

Air. Bert White, of the Taranaki district, is on a visit to Waipawa.

Mr. Jack Corskie, of the local Post Office staff, has received notice of transfer to Hastings anti lakes up his new duties at an early date. The town lias been fortunate in its efficient postal staff and this can be particularly said of Mr. Corskie. who has been most courteous and efficient, and although the transfer means promotion ids departure is regretted.

The Rev. Canon Butterfield leaves Waipawa at the end of the month, having been appointed vicar of Wairoa. During his ten year’s residence here the Canon has endeared himself to a wide circle of friends. A man of wide culture, his scholarly discourses have been much appreciated by large congregations. A farewell garden party will probably be tendered the Canon and Airs. Butterfiel den Friday, the 25th inst., at. th residence of Mr. and Airs. 11. M. Rathbone.
