HASTINGS FLOWER SHOW

SATURDAY’S DISPLAY.

GOOD ENTRIES RECEIVED

The entries fur the Hastings Horticultural Society’s Rose, Sweet Pea and Carnation Show, opening <.n Saturday afternoon were completed yesterday. Those for the rose classes are well ahead of last year, but the sweet peas, in some classes, probably duo to the rain, show a falling .>ll, whilst in others they only show a slight deficiency.

The carnations ond miscellaneous sections are about the same as last, year, but the decorative exhibits, with the exception of decorative tab.es, are not quite so numerous. The competition in the vegetables about holds its own, and the garden classes are well up to last year’s en try. Mr J. L. Edson has just presented a silver cup to be won outright for the most artistically arranged 'and pleasing garden.

A feature of the show will be displays by the various schools of from 60 to 70 boxes of menesia, in massed many-hued colours, which should create a most delightful effect. These boxes become the property of the society and it is their intention, nt the -close of the show, to distribute thorn in the various public reserves in Hastings. Some time ago Mr G. D. Wilson donated 10 boxes of these flowers which were distributed amongst eight, schools, who are exhibiting.
