IMPROVING THE ROADS

COUNTY COUNCIL WORK.

TAR-SEALING,

The Hawke’s Bay County Council has completed the laying of the first coat of tar on the mile section of the Stortford Lodge-Fernhill road, and it is expected that the second application will be put down in a month’s time.

Everything is in readiness for the tar-sealing of the Napier-Taradale road, a distance of about 3| miles. Dumps of metal have been made and barrels of bitumen deposited at. convenient spots, while the road has received the constant attention of the power grader. Th e work of sealing will be commenced immediately the weather takes up. Preparations have been made for the commencement next week of the metalling of the Puketitiri road, from the township to beyond’s Ball’s clearing. When completed this will greatly improve the final stages of the journey to the native bush.
