HAVELOCK NORTH
ST. LUKE’S CHURCH . CONFIRMATION SERVICE. Last evening, the Bishop of Waiapu, the Rt, Rev, W. W. Sedgwick. administered the rite ot Confirmation to 46 candidates, all girls, in the presence of a large and devoui Congregation. In the course of his address to the candidates, the Bishop reminded them they had to forget the congregation and the church and let God’s Holy Spirit enter their hearts. “What matters,’’ he said, “is not how you use the Holy-Spirit, but how it uses you. You are about to enter upon a new life of power, and of service to God and your fellow-men.’’ Spiritual strength is one of God’s seven gifts to man, and a girl or boy who is spiritually weak does as much harm as one that is sinful. They must turn to Jesus Christ as a pattern of strength. To have strength was to have perseverance and those people who lost it had not learned “to keep on keeping on”—thev did not have their hearts in it- They must have a purpose in their prayerg and that must be to come into close fellowship with God. At the conclusion of the address the three hymns, “Come Down, 0 Lord Divine.” “Breathe On Me Breath of God.” and “Fight the Good Fight’’ were sung, and the Bishop pronounced the Benediction after the laying on of hands. CHILDREN’S SPORTS. A meeting of the Havelock North Children’s Sports Committee was held last evening when the matter of deciding wheie the sports are to be run was left in the hands of Messrs Heenan and D. M. S. Millar. It is probable that the sports will take place in the Havelock Domain on Saturday next. A donation of £1 towards the funds was received from Mr. Millar. All arrangements are well in hand.
