Mr and Airs R Paul left by express train this morning for a holiday in Auckland.
J. AfcEwen. of Canterbury, will play in the Rest of New Zealand cricket team in place of Talbot, who remains in Wellington
Mr G. C. Lowe left Hastings this morning to visit his son, who is in hospital at Palmerston North as the result of being thrown from a motorcycle at the Foxton sports.
Mr G. K. Sinclair, headmaster of the Hamilton West School, retires on superannuation at the end of this year, after 42 years’ teaching service. Air Sinclair was at one time headmaster of the Hastings West School.
Lieut.-Colonel W. J. Foster, C.B-, is dead, says a London cable. Colonel Foster was a late brigade major on the staff of the Australian Imperial Forces. He served during the Great War and was in WIC awarded the D.S.O.
The death has occurred at Nagere of Mr Duncan Al. Scott, formerly one of the pioneer settlers of the Kapuni district. He had been suffering for a considerable time from a painful illness and his death was not unexpected.
Mrs W. G. Stead. Provincial Commissioner of the Girl Guides in Hawke’s Bay; Airs Richmond. Divisional Commissioner for Southern Hawke’s Bay, and Mrs Hall, Divisional Secretary for Southern Hawke’s Bay, left Hastings this morning for Auckland, where thev will attend the annual Council of the Girl Guides •
Dr. J. O. Veitch, formerly of Norsewood, Hawke's Bay. arrived at Auckland from London by the Po.t Hardy on Thursday. Dr Veitch left New Zealand before the war and joined the forces in England. He returned to live in England after she war and later retired. He will spena some time visiting relatives in New Zealand.

Advice has been received that the Prime Minister and Airs Coates will attend the receptions to be given the Rt. Hon. L. Al. Amery, Secretary of State for the Dominions, and Mrs Amery, on their arrival at Auckland from Australia by the Niagara next Monday. A civic reception and an at home have been arranged for nexi Alonday, and a welcome by the Victoria League, the Overseas Club, the Royal Colonial Institute and tho Navy League, and also a luncheon by the Chamber of Commerce. Manufacturers' Association and the Em ployers’ Association has been arranged for Tuesday. Probably Air and Mr Amery will leave for AVellington on AVcdnesday night.
