OUR BEAUTIFUL BUSH.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—A lover of Nature’s beautiful handiwork to-day assured me that if ho were an orator he would surely uso that great gift to wake and unite the desire and the power that he is convinced are lying latent within our community to save Puketitin forest reserve from destruction.
Now I was much encouraged by that emphatic statement, but when this friend of real beauty added that, not having other gifts to offer, he would, though but a working man, give five pounds to the good work, I was moved to write this letter in the belief that there are many other folk who would as definitely make this influ.ence felt.
Wil] you, sir. open a subscription list and receive subscriptions, for if this effort is to win. through to its objective real public interest will have to be manifested and money will be both an evidence of public interest and a power towards accomplishment The request for preservation of ten acres of the forest fully merited the refusal it received. The perfe-t, verdant beauty of the block as it stands in spite of innumerable fires from time to time all around it is full answer to those who sav the forest is doomed to file sooner or later, but to attempt to save a few acres would be quite futile.
—1 am. etc, ARCH. LOWF Hastings, 13/11/27.
