MAIN HIGHWAYS

CLIVE TO HASTINGS BOROUGH BOUNDARY. lj MILES TO BE IN CONCRETE The question of the construction o. the mam highways between Clive ana the Hastings Borough Boundary was again before the H.B. County Council to-day, when Cr. W. Tucker, who was appointed by the Council to report on the matter, moved that 1J miles be put doyn in concrete, the Council to find the cost for it, for which., the Highways ’Board would subsidise on a fifty-fifty basis in the ensuing year. Cr. Tucker,’ in reviewing the circumstances that led up to the present position, said that there was strong opposition to the proposal that the road should be tar-sealed. On that road the Council should have a better construction than that put down, and in the interests of those who had to pay the heavy trafficlicense fees, the course suggested should be adopted. In reply to Cr. Crosse Cr. Tuckei said he was pledging his riding and not the Council for the cost, and any assistance that the Council would give from the heavy traffic fees. This was a case in which a committee could be' set up to see what assistance could be given. Cr. Tucker’s motion, which was seconded by Cr. Crosse, was then carried.
