The death of one of Waverley's earliest settlers, in the person of Mrs D. Smith, occurred at Tauranga soma few days ago.
The Rev. George Brown, of Grey Street West, Onehunga, celebrated his 97th birthday on Friday.
The Rt. Rev. W W Sedgwick, Bishop of Waiapu, returned to Napier on Saturday from a visit to England.
The Rev. W. Laycock, a wellknown Methodist minister, has died at the age of 69 years, says a Christchurch press message.
Messrs Grainger, Griffiths. Sutherland and the Rev. McCullv left Hastings this morning for Christchurch, to attend the Presbyterian General Assembly.
The Hon G. M. Thomson, member of the Legislative Council, who has been visiting his neice, Miss Fox, of Havelock North, left this morning on his return to Wellington.
Cr. T. Mason Chambers, who has been abroad for several months, was welcomed by the members of the Hawke’s Bay County Council in Napier to-day.

Mr and Mrs H. E. Grainger, of Hastings, left by the mail tram this morning for the south. Mr. Grainger is attending the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Christchurch and will be absent for about two weeks.

Mr. Frank Edwin Wilson, Mayor of New Plymouth since 1921, is dead, says a message from that town. Though in indifferent health he had attended to his Mayoral duties and his profession up to Saturday morning. He was very unwell on Saturday night and a doctor was called in. He became unconscious and was removed to the hospital at 4 o’clock on Sunday morning. He remained unconscious until the end, at 11 o’clock this morning. It is understood that cerebal meningitis was the cause of death.
