SIR CHARLES PARSONS, D.Sc., F.R.S., by his invention of the turbine, made, in the late Lord Kelvin’s words, "the greatest advance in steam motor power engines since the time of James Watt.” It was very fitting, therefore, that he was awarded, last year, the Kelvin Medal, the highest honour in Science and Engineering.
