WOOL MARKET

KEEN DEMAND IN WELLINGTON. PRICES SATISFACTORY. Wellington. Feb. 17. A keen demand for all classes of wool, particularly for lambs' wool and prices, was the dominating feature of the fourth wool sale, which commenced this evening. Wool was sold at satisfactory prices all round. There was an exceptionally keen demand for lambs’ wool and the prices realised showed an improvement. There was also active competition for pieces, particularly on the part of Continental buyers. Good prices were also obtained for other oddments. The ordinary crossbred fleece wool showed no change on the January sale, but as the wool was heavier in condition the prices realised must be regarded as exceptionally good. Some of the wool offering at this sale is seedy, but this is not unusual at this time cf the year. The briskness of the bidding may be judged from the fact that the first catalogue of 690 lots was put through in less than an hour and a half and that the prices were satisfactory was shown by the very small passings. The sale will tie resumed at 9 o’clock to-morrow morning, and if the bidding is ns keen and as satisfactor as it was this evening, brokers will ha-ve pleasant news to communicate to the growers.

RISE OF FROM id to id. RANGE OF PRICES, Wellington, Feb. 18. The wool sales closed at noon. The general opinion is there is a rise of from id to Ad on 44’s and 48’s, id to lid on lambs’, id to id on bellies and pieces, par to a slight advance on superfine wools.
