WAIROA.
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) 11th Dec, 1874. Summer has been "long a-couring" this year. High wind and late frosts have seriously retarded the crops in the up-country districts. "We have recently experienced some congenial weather, and some seasonable rain has fallen, making glad the hearts of farmers. The potato crop promises to be above the average. The extent of land under crop is much larger this year, the recent scarcity of potatoes having apparently stimulated the natives and others to extra exertion. Considerable activity prevails, owing to the close approach of the Christmas holidays. Sports are to be held in Mr Maney's paddock at Te Kapu, winding up with a ball in the evening. I understand that Mr Gardiner, who has the contract for keeping the Waikaremoiiiia road in order, recently cut a new approach to the Waikare-te-hiko river. The old crossing having become much deeper, it was feared an accident might occur.
