India is the place for magnificent buildings. Sindia, in one of the Feudatory districts, is building himself a palace which bids fair to equal any building of the sort in India. The old palace near Gwalior is being destroyed, and on its site will rise the new building, which will be double storeyed and of the Italian type ; the front and rear faces being raised to give the appearance of a three storeyed edifice. It is to be built of stone on massive arches and buttresses, while balustrades and fretwork will relieve the heavy exterior. The outside measurement is, front and rear, each 142 yards: sidefaces each 176 yards, while a quadrangle within the walls is about 170 yards square. A large ornamental park is also being made near at hand. Five thousand men are engaged daily on the great work.
