AUSTRALIAN TELEGRAMS.
SYDNEY. 3rd October. The Premier and Postmaster General arrived hero on the 30th ult., to confer with Messrs Parkes and Vogel in reference to telegraphic communication via Singapore and the Torres Straits mail service. It is proposed to expand this service and employ swifter steamers. The question of postal reciprocity and the registration of debentures on the London Stock Exchange are to be discussed. The City of Adelaide takes the next month's Californian mails. . The director's report of the Australian Mutual Society was unanimously adopted. The gross surplus exhibited in the quinquennial balance sheet amounts to £295,899. The sum of £235,185 is set apart for distribution. ADELAIDE. 3rd October. A motion has been carried for the preliminary survey of a lino of railway from Adelaide to effect a junction with the Victorian line. Wheat steady at ss, but none is offering. It is proposed to give a banquet to Forest the explorer. He has arrived at the Head Station. , The Adelaide Government will place boats at the crossing places of rivers en route to the Palmer Goldfields. HOBART TOWN. 3rd October. The American Scientific Expedition sails in a week for New Zealand, aud from thence to the Chatham Islands.
