SAN FRANCISCO. 28th July. Since the Tartar arrived here, the Sheriff's officer has been on board, Messrs J. C. Meikle & Co. having sued, as agents of the line, for $19,554, the amount expended by them as agents. Matters have been arranged, as far as the steamer is concerned, to allow Williams, Blaucliford, & Co., agents for the owners of the Tartar, to send her with mails and passengers. Another great conflagration has devastated Chicago. The fire broke out on the 14th July, at 5 p.m., and continued with unabated fury until 2 a.m. on the 15th, during which time it swept down some of the finest buildings in the city. About sixteen blocks were burned. The loss is estimated at $3,000,000, which is covered by about SBOO,OOO insurance. A terrible storm broke over Eastern Nevada. The town of Curaka felt the full force. In addition to the storm, a water-

spout, which had been gathering for hour?, burst, and deluged the town. Twenty lives were lost. A fearful flood has occurred in Pennsylvania, which deluged several towns. Twenty two miles of country were submerged, and 200 lives lost. A million dollars property were destroyed. The detailed accounts fill several columns of. the papers. In Alleghany city the sewers burst, and the water rushed down the streets in torrents, to a depth of ten feet, sweeping away houses, and drowning many persons. Pittsburg suffered the greatest. The Government intend to prosecute all the Mormons at Salt Lake, who have gone into polygamy since the passing of the Polygamy Bill. Eleven persons have been murdered in a house in Spencer County, by persons who eiitered to rob it. Disgraceful charges have been made by Theodore Filtou, against the Rev. Henry Ward Beecher, the celebrated pastor of the Plymouth Church, and brother to Mrs Stowe. Filton charges him with criminal intercourse with Mrs Filton, times and places being specified. Mrs Filton has published a card denying the charge in toto,. Beecher is preparing a statement defending himself. He totally denies the charges. The whole matter is before a committee of Beecher's friends, who are investigating the charges.
