For Poverty Bay—Rangatira, s.s., on Monday For Auckland, Kandavau, and San Francisco—Cyphrenes, to-morrow The schooner Fiery Cross, Captain Grundy, arrived from Wellington on Wednesday morning, with a cargo of jarrah piles. The Pretty Jane left for Poverty Bay and Auckland on Tuesday last. The Southern Cross steamed for Auckland at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, with seven passengers, 51 head cattle, and 254 sheep. The Endeavor got into the Pot on Wednesday last. Wreck of the Hero at Long Point. —A Wairoa correspondent telegraphs as follows to our evening contemporary, under date 28th July :—" The schooner Hero parted her cable aud went ashore at Long Point on Thursday night last. She is a total wreck. No lives were lost." The Wreck of the steamer Paterson, boats, sails. &c, were sold on Tuesday, in Wellington, for £3,300. Levin and Co. of that city were the purchasers. The Wreck of the British Admiral. —II.M.S.S. Pearl, which arrived at Melbourne from Sydney on the 21st July, reports that the wreck of the British Admiral has been found in seven fathoms. From its position) ifc is probable the cargo may be easily recovered. Several more bodies have been buried at King's Island. Collisions.—ln Melbourne, in the collision case in the river between the steamers City of Hobart and the Otago, the pilot has been exonerated from blame. In Sydney, the collision case between the steamer Nevada and the barque E. H. Pyke has been decided ; the former has been relieved of all blame. The Peter Denny arrived at Port Chalmers on the 27th iust., 80 days out, with 283 immigrants. The Marie Bahn, reported in our last, 74 days out, arrived on the same day with 475. The S.S. Albion arrived at the Bluff on Thursday morning, with the English maij via Suez, after a quick passage of four days twelve hours. She biought 57 passengers, and 400 tons of general cargo for all portsShe left for Dunedin at 4 p.m. The William Gifford, whaler, has arrived in Auckland from the Bay of Islands with oil, of the value of £16,000, the produce of a year's cruise. The S.s. Tararua arrived at Hokitika on Monday. She reports that the mail steamer Pera, with the June mail, had arrived a* Melbourne, from Glenelg, when the Tararua was leaving. She is six days before her time. An Inquiry was held in Wellington at the Customs, into the circumstances of the accident to the Frowning Beauty, in the gale on the 21st inst. The evidence shows that, after the cable parted, the captain signalled for assistance from 4 o'clock in the morning till noon, before assistance was sent. An Explosion has taken place on board an Adelaide river steamer, by which two men were killed, and several others injured. The Cyphrenes left Port Chalmers for. northern ports on Wednesday afternoon She leaves Wellington for this port to-day. The s.s. Albion arrived at Port Chalmers from the Bluff at 7 a.m. on Wednesday. The steamer Amoy, with New Zealand teas, arrived at Melbourne Foo Chow • on the 23rd July. San Francisco Items.—Capt. Blethen, chief wharfinger, formerly captain of the steamer Nevada, is seriously ill.—The brig Sea Waif (formerly the French brig Sedi), was reported full on the 20th June, aud was to sail early in the following week for New Zealand. She was to be followed by the British barque Brunette and the American barque Especulador. The mail steamer Prince Alfred was totally wrecked on the morning of the 14th June, by running ashore during a dense fog. Passengers, mails, baggage, and treasure all saved. The wreck was sold on the 16th for $350; but the steamer having broken up. it is not expected that. the purchaser will make much out of the cargo, which consists principally of furs and hides. .

Heartless Conduct of a Captain.— Proceedings have been taken in Melbourne against the captain of the ship Oakworth, for. running down a fishing vessel in the Irish Channel, and omitting to render assistance to the perishing crew. It was shown in evidence on the inquiry, that after running into the vessel, although cries for assistance were distinctly heard, he showed utter disregard for the saving of life. - The Navigation Board suspended his certificate absolutely.
