Hedges, nrrivcd from Mercury Bay on Tuesday last, with 29,000 feet timber, and 36,000 shingle?, The brigantine; Endeavor, Captain J. Dick, "(formerly of the Crest of the Wave), arrived from Oamaru on Wednesday with a full cargo of grain, flour, &c. The sohooner Canterbury, Capt&in J. Russell, arrived from Lyttelton yesterday. The J. G. Coleson went into the Bay yesterday, and will leave for Havelock as soon as the southerly wind goes down. The 3 s. Cyphrenes arrived at Auckland from Kandavau at 9 a.m. on Wedn sday, and left for Napier at 3.1 ojfsterday. She may be expected to arrive on Saturday morning and will steam for Wellington, Lytteltou, and Dunedin, immediately after arrival. The s.s. Southern Cross left Auckland for Napier,! st Wednesday. The Luna haying been sold by the Government, her place is to be taken by the Bruce, a screw steamer of 300 tons register, now on her way from the Clyde to Dunedin. On the arrival of the Bruce, Capt. Fairchild is to take the Luna to Sydney, and hand her over to her purchasers. The Wrecks at Taranaki.—A survey was held on the Paterson on Saturday, 18th July. She. was condemned by Captain Kennedy, from Auckland, on behalf of the insurance company, and Captain Webster, for Messrs Brogdeu and Sons. The Eliza Mary has been got into the Waitara river, West Coast Mail Service.—The Government has entered into a contract with N. Edwards & Co., Nelson, for the conveyance of the San Francisco mails from the Mauukau to New Plymouth, Nelson, Westport,' Greymoiith. Hokitika", and back by the same, route, The."as. Murray, will be employed on the service. Immigrant Ships for. New Zealand. —The Agent-General, by a telegram, dated London, July 3, has announced'to the Premier that during June the following ships with immigrants, sailed for the colony : Oxford, with 430 souls, for Auckland; Carlevale (Carlisle) and Douglass, with 870, for Wellington; Parsee, Tweed, and Christian M'Ausland, with 1370, for Otago ; Callicott (supposed to be Colliope), Merchaut, and Gutenberg, for Canterbury, with 1440. These numbers make a total of emigrants shipped for New Zealand between January and the end of June, of 21,400. The railway plant shipped during June was two thousand tons rails and fastenings, 30 weighing machines, 25 sets wagon irons, 36 tons bridge-work, 122 cylinders, 1500 coils wire, and G2O cases telegraph materials. The W. : Z.S.S., Co.'s Fleet.-It is understood that the N.Z.S.S. Company's .fleet will not :be sold without full value being paid, as several capitalists and merchants have agreed that sooner than allow the steamers to be knocked down at less than their value, all the money shall be forthcoming, so as to keep the head-quarters still at" Wellington. The Mail steamer Cyphrenes arrived in Auckland on Wednesday with the San Francisco,mail.■ She left San Francisco on the 21st June, and brings a cargo of 3347 sacks of barley.and 6330 sacks of .oats. The. steamer Tartar grounded on the Caldrew Reef: she was got'off without -difficulty after being lightened. On leaving Honolulu on he 22nd June, she had beeu sent forty miles eastward by currents. ■ ■ ,'; Capture of a Slaver.—A London letter state? that a slave-ship,,with 275 negroes, from Mozambique, bound for Madagascar, was captured by the English man-of-war Daphne, on March 14. The slaves were put * on board with only two days provisions, and the voyage was prolonged to eight.. Their sufferings are alleged to have.been, indescribable ; many died. > "■■ "■
