SUNRISE AND SUNSET.
I came from some happier plauet than this ! Whose misery saddens my soul, And dimly the dreams of past visions of bliss Give hope of some sunnier gaol—
Than a life of this earth ! whose end is-the grave, And whose hours hang heavy with cares, And whose voyage is climbing up wave after wave, ; ' And whose harvests are burdened with tares !
The sound of the songs of the children of men Wakes some echo of earlier birth, ■ U With memories of mightier melodies then, And the harmony, not of this earth I
And the, light of the sun, and the moon, and the star, On the sea !—and its voice iu my ear, . Calls up a dim glory, deep gleaming afar, , Of some lovelier, earlier, sphere ! ' '
Lightning like ! from this world—throughout space, throughout time— The soul for one brief instant roams, And see?-through Creation, far future's i.i sublime I Where its birthright wins Heavenly Homes.
