GoodaU's Quinine Wine.-r The combination of quinine with alcohol and _ the flavoring ingredients of wine, especially orange wine, is certainly as useful as it is pleasant and popular. The acid used to insure the solution of the quinine, in place of being mineral, asin most of the mixtures prescribed by the faculty, is vegetable, and hence is less liable to disagree with the stomach and give rise to painful tormina —a result rendered still less likely to occur in consequence of the presence of the alcohol and the aromatic oil of the bitter or Seville orange. It is obvious, however, that the efficacy of quinine wine will depend greatly upon the quality and quantity of the constituents of which it is composed, and especially of the quinine employed; but on this point Messrs. Goodall expressly state that their.wine is made with Howard's quinine. The samples of GoodaU's quinine; wine we' have examined have been of excellent quality and remarkable for unprecedented cheapness, which, in these days of dearness and scarcity, is certainly in itself a great and unusual recommendation.—From the Lancet, May 17, Wd.
