The New Ministry has been officiallyconstituted as follows:—First Lord oftlie Treasury—Mr Disraeli; Lord ChancellorLord Cairns ; President of the Council—The Duke of Richmond; Lord of the Privy Seal —Earl Malmesbury ; Secretary for Foreign Affairs—Earl Derby ; Secretary for India— The Marquis of Salisbury ; Secretary for the Colonies—Earl Carnarvon ; Secretary for War—Mr Gathorne Hardy; Home Secretary —Mr R. A. Cross ; Chancellor of the Exchequer—Sir Stafford Northcote ; PostmasterGeneral—Lord John Manners; First Lord of the Admiralty—Mr George Ward Hunt. 24th February. The Marquis of Normanby (Governor of Queensland), Sir Alfred Stephen (late Chief Justice of New South Wales), Mr M'Culloch (late Premier of Victoria), and John O'Shannassey (of Victoria) have been appointed Knight Commanders of the Order of St Michael and St. Georpe. Mr Charles Reade has been knighted. The Hon. Robert B"Urke has been appointed . Under 'Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and Sir Henry Jobd SelwyuIbbetson, Under-Secretary for the Home Department. The Right Hon. C. B. Adderley is the new President of the Board of Trad* The Marquis of Hartinglon, Chief-Secretary for Ireland in the late administration, has been raised to the Peerage. Sir Henry Barkley has heeu created a G.C.B. 25th February. The foMowing additional appointments have been made :—First Commissioner of Works—Lord H. G. Gordon Lennox ; Attor-ney-General—Sir J. B. Karslake; Solicitor. General Sir Richard Baggelley ; Chief Secretary for Ireland—Sir M. E. H. Beach ; Joint Secretaries of Treasury—Abel Smith and W. Hart Dyke; Lord ChamberlainMarquis of Bath, The Marquis of Westminster has been raised to a dukedom. The Ashantee War.— An unofficial report has reached the Admiralty, stating that a battle took place on the Slst January ar Acromboo, lasting twelve hours. • The Ashantees lost heavily. The British loss was also severe; several officers were wounded. General Wolseley was 100 miles from Coo" massie i waiting for reinforcements. The Religious Struggle in Germany. —The German Emperor has written to Earl Russell acknowledging the receipt of a copy of the resolution passed at St. James' Hall sympathising with him in his conflict with the Ultramontanes. The Emperor states that he is firmly determined to battle with the clerical party without infringing on the free exercise of religion. The Spanish Republicans are reported jo have recaptured a Portugese town in the Province of Biscay. 26th February. The following additional appointments have been made by the new Ministry:— Viceroy of Ireland —Duke of Abercorn ; Attorney-General for Ireland—Hon. J. IV Ball; Lord Advocate of Scotland—E. S. Gordon ; Chancellor for the Duchy of Lancaster—Colonel Taylor; Secretary for the Admiralty— Hon. Algernon F. Egertott ; Civil Lord of the Admiralty—Sir Massey Lopes; Colonial Under-Secretary —James Lowther; Indian Under-Secretary Lord George Hamilton, The Ashantee despatch has been received from General Wolseley, dated Coomttsßie, sth February, stating that he had reached there the previous day after five days hard fighting, during which the troops behaved admirably. The casualties of the British troops were under three hundred killed and wounded. The King left the town, but is located close by, and had promised to visit Coomassie that day to sign ft treaty of peace. General Wolseley hoped to commence a return march to the coast the next day.
