By means of a kite (says the Grahamstown Evening Star), Benjamin Franklin discovered that electricity and lightning were identical. That discovery led to the electric telegraph. Kite-flying now-a-days rather interferes with the operation of the telegraph. Youthful emulators of the great philosopher, bent upon amusement rather than scientific experiments,.sadly retard the operation of the electric currents. Their kites become entangled in the telegraph wires, and in trying to disengage them two or more wires are brought into contact; the purpose of the insulators is neutralized, and interruption takes place in our means of communication with distant places.
