The cable has been interrupted at Singapore; communication is just restored. The only message through announces a reduction of the rate of discount to seven per cent. WELLINGTON, 28th November. The Government have arranged with the New Zealand Steam Shipping Company for the Phoebe to take the December outward mails for America and Europe, to connect with the M : Gregor at Sydney. The Phoebe leaves Wellington on the 12th December, and Manukau on the 14th ; the provincial connexions are to be made at Wellington. The January outward mail will also go via, Sydney to connect with the Tartar. There will be no inward mail via San Francisco until the M'Gregor returns. The first direct outward mail will be in February, by the BJogfid, 29 th November, The game of cricket to-day was splendidly playeil and exciting; the weather was magnificeut, and there were upwards of a thousand people on the ground. Wellington, in the first innings, was put out with 85 runs. The Auckland team then took their first innings, and were put out for 53—being much astonished at the way in which it was done. Wellington, in their second innings, made splendid play, bothered the Auckland bowlers, find made 120 runs. In the Fine Arts department Messrs Gully and Barraud took the first prizes for colonial water-color paintings ; Mr Hoyle, of Auckland, took the second prize ; and Messrs Browning and James, of Hokitika, took the first and sccoud prizes for pen-and-ink sketches. Visitors from Canterbury say' that the Fine Arts department is superior to the Christchurch exhibition, and that the exhibits of the minerals of the Province form the richest and most varied collection in New Zealand. HOKITIKA, 28th November. A crowded meeting was held in the Town Hall last night, to made arrangements for the reception of the Governor. It was resolved that there should be appointed, from the County and Borough Councils, a joint committee of management. BLUFF, 28th November. The Claude Hamilton has arrived. She left Melbourne at 7 p ,m. on the 22nd instant. She brings 4G saloon and 36 steerage passengers, 280 tons cargo, 40 horses, and 350 sheep for various ports. The Cubans have shot fifty-seven more filibusters. America demands reparation, and threatens extreme measures. Respecting the sixteen English shot, England has declared that she will hold Spain responsible if any more are executed. The British squadron are ordered to Cuba. Twenty-six Englishmen were on board the Virginia. Sir Henry James has been appointed Attor-ney-General ; Mr Vernon Harcourt, SolicitorGeneral ; Lyon Playfair, Postmaster-Gene-ral. The English forces have defeated the Ashantces, and have burnt five villages at Chima. Twenty-eight English were wounded. General Wolseley is advancing in pursuit of the Ashantce forces. Continental.—Marshal M'Mahon's presidental powers are to be prolonged for five years. He demands seven years' unconditional prolongation of his powers as President of the Republic. A Colonel has been imprisoned for three mouths for contempt of the court which was trying Bazaiue.
