The Waikato natives have held an interview with To Whiti, at Parihaka. Te Whiti said that it was through Tawhiao and themselves that all the evil work had been. The stay of the natives was shoit, and they refused to eat the bread that had been provided. A scheme for settling the land is spoken of. WELLINGTON, 18th November. Preliminary arrangements are being made to establish am insurance company in £lO shares. Good names are connected with the enterprise. 19th November. The brig Albion has arrived from Newcastle. During a calm, the vessel drifted on the Three Kings' Islands. The anchor was let go, and the boats filled with provisions in case of wreck. The anchor partially held, the vessel drifting backwards and forwards near the rocks. At length the breeze enabled her to get" away without damage. CHRISTCHUKCH, 18th November.

The interprovincial cricket match, Anckland v. Canterbury, began to-day. His Excellency the Governor was present. Tho Auckland team scored 90 in the first innings. The fielding of Canterbury was splendid, but • the bowling was not up, to the usual mark The stumps were drawn at 6 p.m., Canterbury having s'lvcn wickets down for 53 runs. The bowling of the Auckland team .was magnificent. The Governor paid a visit to Kaiapoi. N. llenaut, of the ship Puujaub, has been charged with supplying to the immigrants impure water and improperly cooked bread during the voyage. He was fined £5 on two charger of supplying improperly-cooked food; the charge relating to impure water was dismissed, owing to want of evidence. 20th November. The match was resumed to-day. The Times, this morning, published the following official information:—The intercolonial steamer, which arrived at Hokitika yesterday, brought a telegraphic despatch from the Agent-General to the Colonial Government, stating that the following vessels had sailed from Great Britain during the month of October, with the number of immigrants mentioned :—Salisbury, for Wellington, 250 ; Queen of the North, for Napier, 210 ; Lauderdale, for Auckland, 122; Dunfillan, for Otago, 162 ; Isle of the South, for Canterbury, 320—total, 1869. Dr. Peatherston also states that a ship was to sail on the 19th November, for Napier, but he does not state the number of immigrants. He also states that, in obedience to the latest instructions telegraphed to him by the Government at the close of the session, he had abandoned the promissory note system with immigrants, and had announced his intention of granting free passages, insisting only on the cost of outfit, and payment of conveyance to the port of embarkation. He had also placed himself in direct and cordial communication with the leader of the Agricultural Laborers' Union, and other societies with a similar charter, as directed. Before receiving infractions from the Government, relating to the re-chartering of steamers for the conveyance of immigrants, he had made arrangements to send a number of them by the Mongal, the first steamer by the new San Francisco line. He concludes by saying that he had shipped four locomotives, and 1,700 tons of railway plant to the Colony, and hoped to be able to despatch 3,600 tons in all November.

EUROPEAN SUMMARY. HOKITIKA, 19th November. The Tararua has arrived from Melbourne, having left that port on the 13th inst. LONDON, 3rd November. Sir J. Coleridge, the Attorney-General' succeeds the late Sir William Bovill as Chief Justice in the Court of Common Pleas. The friendly chiefs are supporting Wolsey against the Ashautees. Buffet has been re-elected President of the French Assembly. Eight of the committee of fifteen oppose the extension of M'MahobJs powers. This has caused a great sensation. 11th November. The Due de Broglie has resigned. M'Mahon has refused to accept his resignation. In Spain, a great victory has been gained in Navarre over the republican troops ; but the result is undecisive. AUSTRALIAN SUMMARY. MELBOUKNE, 13th November. New South Wales has won the intercolonial rifle match, beating Victoria by (55 points, and New Zealand by 103. The highest scores in the New Zealand team were made by Small and Christie, who scored 85 each. The highest in the Victorian company were Whalley, 89, and Nannay, 88. Sydney : Freeman, 91, and Lamb, 90. The total scores were : Sydney, 1586 ; Victoria, 1521 ; New Zealand, 1483. The bakers have won eight hours from their employers. SYDNEY, 12th November. Captain Granger has been appointed to the command of the first California mail steamer. NEWCASTLE, 12th November. The carpenlers have struck for eight hours, ADELAIDE, 12th November. Wheat, 5s lOd for old ; 5s for new.
