The s.s. Star of the South, Capt. Chrisp, arrived from Poverty Bay aud Auckland on Friday morning, with a general cargo and a large number of passengers. —The Star steamed for the Thames and Auckland at D p.m. on Saturday with 58 head cattle, and 198 sheep.
The new iron screw steamer Fairy, 50 tons burthen, built to the order of, Messrs J. Campbell and Or. E. Q. Kichardson, of this port, by Messrs Kincaid, M'Quccn. and Co. of Dunedin, arrived in Napier harbor at 2 p.m. on Saturday. This smart little craft is deserving of more than a passing notice, as being the first iron steamer built in this Colony ; and she reflects no small credit on her builders. Her dimensions, as given by the Otago Daily Times, are as follow: 70ft. over all; length cf keel. 65ft.; breadth of beam, 13ft., and depth of hold, Oft. 8 inches. Her engines, ou the direct-acting principle, arc described as models of compactness and ease in working. They arc 15 horse-power, nominal; but are capable of working up to 27 horse-power, with a pressure of: uOlbs of steam. She left Dunedin at 5 p.m. on the Bth hist., and arrived at Lyttelton'at 11 p.m. ou the oth. Arrived at Wellington after a passage of 20 hours from Lyttclton ; left Wellington at 1.45 p.m. on Thursday; anchored for a short time in Evan's Hay ; left at noon on Friday, and arrived as above. The Fairy brings a full general cargo. She is intended for the Wairoa and Poverty 13ay trade; she is fitted up in excellent style, and is a very welcome addition to our local fleet.
The schooner Opotiki, W. Harris, master, from Poverty Bay, arrived in port on Saturday with 15 empty casks. The ketch Clematis, Captain W. Bendall, arrived from Tc Apiti, shortly before midnight on Saturday, with 108 bales wool.
The clipper ship Excelsior, Captain J. T. Irvine, arrived from Wellington at about noon on Sunday in ballast.
The ketch Mary Ann Hudson arrived from Wairoa and Mohaka on Sunday with 23 bales wool and 3 passengers.
The s.s. Bangatira, Capt. C. Lloyd, from Wellington and Castle Point, arrived in port at au early hour yesterday morning, and steamed for Poverty Bay at 3.30 p.m.
The schooner Dagrnar sailed for Wellington on Friday morning, with GO bales wool, and part of original cargo from the South. The schooner Saucy Lass took her departure for Auckland via the coast on Saturday last with 4 casks beef, and 100 hides.
The cutter Mercury may be expected here shortly, from Mercury Bay, with a cargo of jtimber fop Jfr J. LeQuesne.
