GoodaWs Quinine Wine. —The combination of quinine with alcohol and tho flavoring ingredients of wine, especially orange wine, is certainly as useful as it is pleasant and popular. The acid used to insure the solution of the quinine, in placo of being mineral, as in most of the mixtures prescribed b} r the faculty, is vegetable, and hence is less liable to disagree with tho stomach and give rise to painful tormina —a result rendered still less likely to occur in consequence of the presence of tho alcohol and the aromatic oil of the bitter or Seville orange. It is obvious, howevor, i that the efficacy of quinino wine will depend greatly upon the quality and quantity of the constituents of which it is composed, and especially of the quinino employed; but on this point Messrs Goodall expressly state that their wine is ! made with Ho ward's quinine. The sample? of Goodall's quinine wine we have examined have been of excellent quality, and remarkable for unprecedented cheapness, which, in these days of clearness and scarcity, is certainly in itself a great and unusual recommendation. —From thQ 1 Lancet, May 17* 1873.
