The Waikato Times, of the 14th October, ; says:—" Some carp have been successfully , introduced into the Waikato during the past week. The success in transporting young fish 100 miles by coach is due to the great care of Mr F. M'Govern. He secured four dozen from the Acclimatisation Society's ponds in Auckland, on Tuesday, and put them carefully into a kerosine tin, with holes bored in the lid; he put some water-cress into the water, which he changed frequently. On Wednesday morning he started by coach for Hamilton; the water was renewed from running streams five times during the journey. The result exceeded the most sanguine expectations of Mr M'Govern, he having succeeded in arriving at his destination with every fish alive, and apparently well. Four Chinamen, says the TUapeka TimeSj were brought before Captain M'Kentsie, J.P,, at Tapanui, a few days ago, charged with wilful destruction of private pioperty, to Wit, mining on Captain Logan's freehold at Leitham Gorge. The scene presented on Tuesday, 23rd ultimo, of four Chinamen on horseback, Under strong escort, riding Up Peel*street, was very amusing. Here were four harmless creatures who had been guilty of the grave offence of sinking a few holes in the 10,000 acre block of land, said to be not)auriferous, lately sold in the neighborhood of Tapanui, some 40 miles distant from Lawrence, convicted of mining on private propertyi and fined in the amount of £6 each for the damage done—more money we guess than they have, earned for some months past —and in default of payment, brought to Lawrence at the expense of the country.
