[FEOM THS ANGLO-AUSTBALIAN PBESS TBLEGUAM AGENCY.] WELLINGTON. Tuesday, Dec. 17. An association of early settlers has been formed here. CHRISTCHUROH. OPENING OF THE COLONIAL EXHIBITION. Tuesday, Dec. 17. The Exhibition was opened at noon yesterday, by his Excellency the Governor. His Honor the Superintendent delivered aii address, during the course of which he expressed the regret felt at the projected departure from the Colony of Sir G. F. Bowen. He congratulated the Province of Canterbury and the Colony upon the success which bade fair to attend this Exhibition.—The Governor replied. He said that though he was about to take his departure for another Colony, he would ever cherish warm feelings towards the people of New Zealand for tie many expressions of kindness and hearty welcome he had always received at their hands. He then formally declared the Exhibition to be opened.—Sir George then weni through the Exhibition, and afterwards visited the sports which were being held in Latimer Square. He will attend the Ball to-nigh \ and the Mayor's banquet 10-morrow, and on Thursday he will proceed to Akaroa.
