Rangatira, Captain F. Hepburn, which left for Poverty Bay on Friday evening, returned to this port about 7.30 on Saturday night, and again took her departure at about 9 p.m., for Wellington via Blackhead. At the latter place she would ship a quantity of wool. The schooner Hero, John Campbell, master, from Wairoa, arrived in port about 10 o'clock last night. Cargo: 20 bales wool, 10 hides, 2 sheepskins, and 6 empty cask 3. The Hero leaves for Arapawanui to-morrow. The cutter Dawn will probably leave for Poverty Bay to-night or to-morrow. The s.s. Star of the South left for Napier via Poverty Bay at 6.30 on Saturday evening. The schooner Columbia, from Napier, arrived at Poverty Bay on the Bth inst., and left for Auckland on the 12th. The Poverty Bay Standard, of Saturday last, says ; —The cutter Gazelle turned up safe on Thursday morning after a boisterous passage from Napier. Fears were beginning to be felt for her safety. She took shelter on Saturday night, 7th inst,, under Long Point to repair damages. Tne Gazelle sails for Auckland tomorrow morning. A transport, with 330 female and 550 male Communist convicts on board, sailed on the 18th September from Brest for New Caledonia.
