We have to acknowledge the receipt from Mf.ssi-8 Letts, Son, <fc Co., New Cios*, London, of a specimen copy of jor.e of the ciu ietien of ihoir Diaries for 1573 (Colonial Edition). The complete ness and accuracy of the in forma lion relating to tlio Colonies is surprising, and we know of no colonial publication where .so mnch coiulepwtl information & jgiy.e» in so upcegsible a form.
; We notice that the spcci men before us contains among other matter the new Lectionary of the Church of England. One of the great features of I he book is 1 the " Banking, Postal, and Telegraph Directory"—a marvel of completeness. As the publishers well .say in their address to subscribers, it "may now be looked upon as a Gazetteer of advancing civilisation all over the world ; as, no sooner does a district rise into importance from its commercial activity, than the Post Office is sure io establish its übiquitous organization there, a Bank sets its seal on the spot as a new centre of energy, and the Telegraph embraces it. in its absorbing arm*: thus, Biindisi, New Rush Diamond Fields, and Port Said-are added to our list of banking centres, whilst Australia has come under the dominion of the Telegraphic system from Europe." Notwithstand ing unlooked-for inconvenience, occasioned by the reduction of the hours of labor, this enterprising firm has added a number of new kinds to the almost innumerable varieties published in former years. Those books are now so well known and appreciated, that they "annot tail to meet with a large and annually increasing market in the Colonies.
