The Supreme Court was opened this morning by his Honor Mr Justice Johnson. There were only three crim inal cases-r-Thomas Gray, larceny; Robert Shaw, indecent assault, and Maaka, murder. The first prisoner, it will be-remembered, stole a gold watch from a box in Mr While's store, Porangahau. He pleaded guilty, and in consideration of previous good character, and the time he had been in con* fincment, he leceived the light sentence of six months' imprisonment. Robert Shaw was then brought up on the charge of indecent assault on Mrs E. Gregory, Waipawa. According to the evidenee he entered the room in the Empire Hotel, where she was sleeping by means of the window, and pulled her out of bed. She screamed for help, and Mr Parkin the landlord, came to her assistance, whereupon tiiH prisonerwent away. Prisoner's counsel contended that he had mistaken the room, and that the evidence for the prosecution was unworthy of credence. —The jury retired at 2 p.m., and the Court adjourned for half-an-hour.
