An enquiry has been held into the mortality of children on board the ship Bebington during her voyage from London to this port. The commission reports that the cause of the mortality wa>« bad ventilation, and the bad quality and insufficiency of provisions. INVERCARGILL. Thursday, Nov. 21. Mrs. Whitting has been found guilty of the murder of her three children and sentenced to death. A man named Donald Murdoch, for killing a man at Benmore, has been found guilty of manslaughter. Sen* tence has been deferred. DUNEDIN. Thursday, Nov. 21. A smart shock of earthquake was felt here at 0.33 p.m. yesterday. A man named Murdoch M'Lean was found today in "Washdyke Creek, with a pioce of flax and lump of iron attached round his throat. An inquest will be held to-dav.
