[PKOM THE ANGLO* AUSTRALIAN PBBSS TELEGRAM AGENCY.] AUCKLAND. DESTRUCTIVE FIRE THIS MORNING. DAMAGE TO PROPERTY, ABOUT £50,000. Wednesday, Nov. 20. A very disastrous conflagration took place in this city this morning, by which property valued at over ,£50,000 has been destroyed. One man was nearly killed; two firemen were much injured. The fire originated in Scherff's flax store in Fort-street. The other buildings' destroyed are the Post and Telegraph Odices, the Custom-house, the ProUuciai Government buildings, Bucholz's store and bonded warehouse, and Sherff and Thomes' stores, in Fortsweet. About 15 other stores and buildings have been p.ntly burnt. The Union Bank of Australia had a very narrow escape. Only a few documents and mails were saved from the Post and Telegraph Offices and Government Buildings. The exact amount of insurance effected on the property destroyed has not yet been ascertained. It is known, however, that the Government Buildings—the erection of which cost £25,000 —were uninsured ; and it is reported that the remainder of the property destroyed was insured. DUNE DIN. Wednesday, Nov. 20. The General Government has instructed the Agent-General to offer free passages to all suitable emigrants from Great Britain. A payable coal seam has been discovered near Preservation fnlet. The steamer Nebraska fired a salute in honor of Grant's re-election to the Presidency of the United States. The. Port Chalmers Naval Brigade fired nineteen guns, thus cementing national unity. WELLINGTON. Wednesday, Nov. 20. The certificate of Captain Bain, of the barque City of Newcastle has been cancelled. Parliament has been further prorogued co the 18th February.
