[yfiQJtf THE ANGHiO'ATTSTBALIAN PEB3S TELEGRAM AGENCY.] WELLINGTON. Monday, Nov. 18. The s.s. Rangatira, sent out to the rescue of the barque City of Newcastle, returned to port yesterday. Every nook had been searched, but no trace found of the musing boat. The City was under full sail when she struck. The weather was thick at the time, It is supposed that the captain mistook the Wellington light for the Maua Island light. A large boat was lowered, and swamped alongside. A small boat was then lowered, and the female passengers, a boy, and three of the ciew got in ; they took no provisions. They were instructed by die captain to pull round Wellington head. The captain of the barque, Captain Fox, a passenger, and the of the crew, followed in another boat. They saw no sign of the first boat Short ly after the captain left the wreck, the vessel began to bieak up. A shore line was made fast, and four-out of the six left on the wreck were saved. The two drowned were Abbott, a passeng'T, and Burrows, ship's cook. The mining passengers arc Mesdames Pilcher, Fox, and Jones, Miss Cameron,.and Master Jones. A whaleboat had been sent out from Pieton with provisions to search, bit when the llangatira left Tory Channel yesterday, no tracts of the missine; boat hud been discovered. A party of Maoii.s are making an active search.
