A proposal made by the General Government that the Speaker of the House of Representatives should arbitrate in the matter of the Wellington claims re Manawatu land, and that the award, if any, should be paid from money appropriated for the purchase of native land* in the North Island, has been 1 ejected by the Wellington Executive on the ground that as the money paid for the purchase of native lands in charged against the province in which such money is expended, the Province of Wellington would, were the proposal carried out, virtually pay itself. AUCKLAND. Tuesday, Nov. 12. A boy was accidentally shot in the knee-cap after the Volunteer Review yesterday. LYTTELTON. Tuesday, Nov. 12.
