The lion. G. A. Woods, Premier of Fiji, wa«, on the 17th Oet, at .Sydney on tinncial business connected with the National Government. A telegram was received in Melbourne on the day previously, by Greville and Co., intimating that Mr Woods lias floated a loan ot £ 25,000 on very favorable terms. With reference to this the Melbourne Telegraph says :—" The most gratifying feature in the news is the consideration that it will put an end to the dreams of annexation, for no Australian colony would caie about taking Fiji plus her liabilities. The loan is an effectual assertion ot independence"

The construction of the line is all but completed, and the ballasting is expec ted to be finished in about a week or ten days.
