Trade appears to be in a bad state in Auckland. The Southern Cross sa y S . —"The number of bankrupt* coming before the Bankruptcy Court in Auckland is greatly on the increase* and there is likely to be work for his Honor the Chief Justice and the Official Trustee for some three or four month* to come, even it there be no more adjudications. The assets in most <>f the bankruptcies, the schedules of which have boon filed, show for very small amounts, and very small percent* ages of these are expected to be realized.
A dairyman named James Hampton, while tending his cattle on Stoney Lead, West Coast, was gored by one of them, ami one of his eyes was completely destroyed.
Mr Douglas, of Dunedin, has received an order for the A.S.N. Company, Sydney, for four of his boats, fitted with his patent boat lowering apparatus. Mr Douglas has secured another patent for the invention. The total quantity of gold exported from the Province of Wellington between April 1857 and September 1872 was thirty ounces, valued at £l2O.
