Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. MONDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1872.
In the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, E. Holmes, a seaman, was charged by Capt. Grant of the Ballarat, with refusing to do duty. The accused admitted the offence, hut complained of the rations on board. Committed to prison for lour weeks, with hard labor. Michael Flanagan, a stowaway on board the Rangatira, was fined £2, or in default one week's imprisonment with hard labor.
The splendid Band of the Napier Rifle Volunteers gave another of their highly popular open-air performances in the Government Lawn on the afternoon of Saturday last. The programme was carefully selected, and the several pieces were gone through in a very creditable manner. The rendering of a sacred selection—" The Dying Christian "—was especially admired. A general meeting of the shareholders of the Napier Land and Building Society No. 2, will be held in the Society's Office, Government Buildings, at 8 o'clock this (Monday) evening, for the purpose of electing an auditor for the current year.
