THE ALABAMA QUESTION.
Geneva, September 6.—The Boaid ot Arbitral ion had three half-hour sessions today, concluding all business req ailing deliberation. The Court adjourned* until Monday, to give time for the final>. revising and translating of the officiate copies of the judgments rendered, Tho Arbitrators' then accepted the invitation of the Swiss Federal Council to a State dinner at Berneon Thursday, in celebration of then* retnrn to Geneva no Saturday Hth, when official signatures will be affixel to the documents, and the respective Governments appiised of the result of the arbitration in accordance with the terms of the Treaty. General gratification is expressed at the speedy and satisfactory result of the labors of the Arbitration. A number of persons connected with the Court have already left Geneva.
New York, September 6.—A World special says that the Geneva Tribunal may award for losses by the Alabama, Florida, Shenandoah, and for the ex-pen-ses of the United Slates in pursuing them, $15,000,000. London, September 6.—The Paris papers to-day published a rumor from an unknown source that the Geneva Tribunal has awarded to United States. 130,000,000 damages, with interest for nine years at 7 per cent. The report h discredited.
Geneva, September B.—A dinner wag oriven to the Arbitrators by the city of Geneva, last night, and was a most satisfactory affair. M. Carteret, on th.o part of his fellow-citizens, declared that the presence of the Arbitration was an honor to Geneva, and hoped that all nations will follow the example of Eng land and the United States by settling their differences through such mode of peaceful appeal to reason and justice. Count Schlopis replied in words of praise to the city of Geneva, and took occasion to speak of the man who had achieved independence for Italy, Count Cavour, whose friend he was proud to have been, and added that Geneva was doubly dear to him as the birthplace of the moiher of that great statesman.
Geneva, September 9.—The amount' of damages awarded to the United States by the Board of Arbitration will exceed £3,000,000 only by a few thousand pound*. The silting of the Board to-day was brief. A few matters of detail only engaged the attention of the Board. The closing session of the Board will be on Saturday next, and will be open to the public- The arlii« trators, agents, counsel, and secretaries, will be present Ladies have been invited to attend. The arbitrators and others connected with the board will leave Geneva to-morrow by special train for Berne, where they will be the guests of tho Government. The party will lunch at tnterlachen on Thursday morning, and dine with the President of the Federal Council of Switzerland at Berne in the evening.
Geneva, September 10.—The arbitrators will hold their next meeting on Friday. The awaul to America is now stated at £3,250,000. London, September 10.—Mi Schenclc, American Minister, is expected hero to-day.—The Advertiser of this morning expresses, in strong terms, its dis* satisfaction at the result of the labors of the Geneva Arbitrators. It says the plain English of it is, that the British Government has allowed the Americans to bully us out. of three or four million pounds to carry favor with them, and they modestly congratulate us upon paying the amount in the settlement of claims for which, a few weeks ago, it was affirmed, England is neither legally nor morally bound.
