Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19, 1872.

An official inquiry into the wrecl? of the brigantine Esther has been held at the Custom-house, Port Ahuriri, J. M. Tabuteau, Esq., Collector, presiding. The decision was that no blame could be attached to any poison for the accident, which was caused by the wind falling just as the vessel had crossed the bar in the face of a strong tide. Three heavy rollers \n rapid succession followed, and cast the vessel upon the boulder bank. Great credit was given to the pilot and all others concerned for their strenuous though unavailing efforts to save the vessel.

The concise and interesting report of the openjng of tho new Methodist Chapel at "Waipawa, which appears in another column, is from this morning's jssue of our contemporary the Herald. Our own reporter was unavoidably absent from what was evidently a very pleasant and profitable gathering. The Hawke's Bay portion of the English Mail via California came to hand to-day, per Nevada, from Auckland.
