SI Rj —Should Mr Colenso be at the head of the poll to-morrow, he may certainly thank your evening contemporary and Mr. Newton's seconder for largely contributing to such a result; and well may Mr Newton exclaim, "Save me from my friends ! " I had at first made up my 'mind to vote for Mr Newton, hut after your evening contemporary's scurrilous attack on Mr Colenso, and the little game enacted on nomination day by Mr. Newton's seconder, I have now fully made up my mind who to vote for; and I only hope my fellowelectors will view matters in the same light as I do. I am only sorry that an old hard working man should, on nomination day, have been led to make such
