WELLINGTON REGATTA.
The following is the programme of the regatta to be held in Wellington about the end of February next: —
I.—lnter-provincial and Tnter-colonial Fouroared Race.—Open to all comers. Any description of boat; with or without coxswain. Distance, three miles, over as nearly as possible a straight course. Entrance, £5 ss. First prize, £1.50; second prize, £lO 10s. Both prizes in money or plate, at the option of the winners. 2. —Five-oared Whaleboat Race.—Open to all comers. Boats to use tholepins and ash oars, and carry a complete set of whaling gear,—that is, lines, tubs, harpoons, &c, —and to be passed by the Umpire appointed, as boats fit for whaling purposes, though not necessarily having been engaged therein. Distance, five miles. First prize, £75 ; second boat to save its entrance. Entrance, £3 3s. 3.—Four-oared Inrigged Gigs, oe any Length and Description.—To carry a coxswain. Open to all comers. Distance, three miles. Straight away course. First prize, £SO; second boat to save its entrance. Entrance, £2 2s. 4.—Pair-oared Race,—Open to all comers. Any description of boat; with or without coxswain. Distauce, two mile 3. Entrance, £1 Is. First prize, £2O; second boat to save its entrance. Prize in money or plate, at the option of the winner. s.—Scullers' Race.— Open to all comers. Any description of boat. Distance, two miles, over a straight course. Entrance, £1 Is. First prize, £2O; second boat to save its entrance. Prize in money or plate at the option of the winner. —Could not some steps be taken to have Port Ahuriri represented at this regatta % The subject is certainly worthy of consideration. Entries will close in Wellington on the Ist February. All entries bearing the post mark of that date will be received.
