Hawke's Bay Times. Nulliuss addictus jurare in verba magistri. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1872. THE DEFEAT OF THE MINISTRY.
Our telegrams to-day announce the defeat of the Eox-Vogel Ministry on the resolutions moved by Mr Stafford. The news will surprise no one, and except to interested parties will not give oause for regret. It is to be hoped that no time will be lost in providing for the resumption of the business of the Colony, which has been at a complete stand-still during the discussion of the want of confidence resolutions. It would almost seem that the division was purposely delayed by the Government party to allow lime for the arrival from the South of one of their supporters, whose vote, however, proved insufficient to turn the scale. The Ministry have well earned their defeat by their mismanagement- of the business of the Colony, their broken promises, and their scandalous abuse of patronage We hope that an improved state of things is in store for the country; for though it is no doubt possible to form a better and stronger administration, we doubt whether, under present circumstances, we could have a worse.
