Sunerintent of NeU i' ■ io'J VjJ'X *» V v v ' ! son, moved the following resolution : "That, in the opinion of this HroTree, it is expedient that the Colonial Government, without divesting itself of responsibility for the proper conduct of the works authorised by the General Assembly, or of 'the sole control over ail monies voted by; Parliament J/shall avail itself of the services of the existing Provincial organizations, that the duties of Resident Ministers and General Agf.m s of the Colonial Government shall, in their respective provinces, devolve upon the . Superintendents and Executives as agents of the Colonial Government, unless otherwise determined by the Colonial Government upon iLs responsibility." During the course of his remarks, Mr. Curtis shewed that the general government of the Colony had been badly administered lately. Mr. Fox opposed the motion. He referred to the policy of 1870, and quoted from "Hansard" and from certain of the Press against it. He also intimated that if the resolution now before the House was carried, the Government would feel it their duty to resign their seats. Mr. Gillies followed, and attacked the Colonial administration, more especially as regarded the Province of Auckland. Messrs. Webster, Harrison, and Collins severally opposed the motion. Mr. Bathgate condemned the whole administration of the General Government, especially with regard to the immigiation and public works scheme. He would support the motion. The debate was then adjourned.
