Hawke's Bay Times. Nullius addictus jurare in verba magistri. WEDNESDAY, JULY 17, 1872.
There were no cases in the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning. The body of the unfortunate man found on Monday in the Waitangi has been identified by Mr Inspector Scully as that of a man named John Brown, who has recently appeared on two separate occasions at the Resident Magis trate's Court in answer to charges of drunkenness. On the second occasion he acted very strangely in Court, and seemed to be recovering from delirium tremens. He had been out of money and out of employment, and had expressed to Mr Scully a belief that lie would at some time time make away with himself, Mr Scully offered to find him employment, but he did not avail himself of the offer. An information was laid by Mr Allanach at the Resident Magistrate's Court to day against a haif-caste for assault committed on the occasion of the Clive riot. We have to acknowledge the receipt, from J. B. Bennett, Esq., RegistrarGeneral, of the annual volume of statistics of the Colony for the year 1870.
The sittings of the Supreme Court have been further adjourned to the 24th inst. By our advertising columns it will be seen that Mr. Troy has received the dispensation to open a new Tent of the Independent Order of Rechabites in the Town of Napier.
