The s.s. Star of the South, Capt. Holmes, left Auckland at 4.30 p.m. on Friday last, 12th inst., and passed Cape Colville at 8 o'clock the same night. On Saturday, in the Bay of Plenty, had a strong easterly wind, in consequence of which had to seek shelter under Mayor Island, coming to an anchor there at 2 p.m. Kesumed her voyage at 3 p.m. on Sunday, and had fresh easterly weather to the East Cape, which was rounded at 4 p.m yesterday. Had fresh northerly weather from thence to port, arriying here at 10 a.m. to-day. She was the bearer of 30 tons general cargo and several passengers. —The Star will steam hence for Auckland direct at 2 p.m. to-morrow. The s.s. Napier was to have left Auckland on Saturday evening for this port via Tologa and Poverty Bays, The schooner Saucy Lass, which left this port on the 27th ult., does not appear to have arrived at Auckland up to Friday last. The schooner Columbia was advertised in the local papers to leave Lyttelton for Napier direct on or about the 15th inst. The Columbia, we are informed, had not arrived at Lyttelton from this port up to the 10th inst. We hear that the s.s. Keera, from Wellington, may be expected to arrive here to-morrow. This vessel, we learn, is now commanded by Capt. Andrews, formerly of the Lord Ashley, —Captain Carey having been transferred to the s.s. Wellington. The writer of a private letter from Loudon, dated May 2, which is published in the Wellington Independent, stales that the barque Ballarat was to leave London for Napier direct in June, with about 150 Highlanders ; and a ship from Christiania [the Hodwig], with about 250 Scandinavians, also for this port, was to pail on the Ist June. The barque Ayr, from Auckland to Lyttelton, was spoken by the brigantine Amherst on the 13th inst., not on the- 6th, as reporte'd in our last. The Auckland Evening Star, 11th inst,, says ;—Apprehensions have been felt for the safely of the ship Bulwark, which left England for this port on the 2nd March, We are now, however, assured of her safety, and her arrival here jnay be looked for hourly. From our Sydney correspondent we learn that her ]Vlajesty's ship Dido, just arrived at that port from the Cape of Good Hope, reports that the ship Bulwark, from London to Auckland, had to put into the tape for repairs, and sailed again on the 4vU May,

Capt. Doile, of the s.s. Go-ahead, has been appointed chief officer of the s.s. Taranaki. It is stated that the N.Z.S.S. Company intend building a steamer in Auckland for the Manawatu trade.
